Compensation & Benefits Controversy

Our Approach

Understand the matter before choosing a response.

Each engagement begins with the IRS issue, the client’s objectives, the procedural posture, and the available record. Scope and timing are agreed before substantive work begins.

01

Initial fit and deadline review

Discuss the general issue, IRS contact or proposed action, relevant periods, immediate deadlines, and whether the matter fits GWD’s federal controversy or review scope.

02

Defined engagement

Confirm the client, deliverables, fee, authorization, and responsibilities. Representation before the IRS requires an executed engagement and appropriate authorization.

03

Secure records exchange

After engagement, GWD arranges an appropriate secure method for records. Do not send taxpayer identifiers, returns, transcripts, payroll files, or other sensitive information through this website or ordinary email.

04

Issue and record review

Review relevant notices, information requests, returns, payroll and information-reporting records, agreements, workpapers, and other materials tied to the issue.

05

Strategy and advocacy

Evaluate the facts, authority, procedural posture, exposure, and administrative alternatives. When engaged and authorized, support communication and advocacy with the IRS.

06

Coordinate with the client’s team

Work with the existing CPA, EA, attorney, payroll provider, or benefits professional as authorized. Litigation, state matters, DOL issues, and plan operations may require other specialists.

Scope clarity

Review and advocacy—not plan operations.

GWD does not design, draft, manage, administer, or implement compensation plans or equity programs. ASC 718 and ASC 740 work is limited to review and advisory support; GWD does not assume management’s accounting responsibilities or provide assurance services.
